School Closures

The school will stay open if at all possible when there is severe weather. Parents have the responsibility of getting pupils to and from school safely and need to decide if the journey is safe but please consider carefully and only keep children at home if conditions really are unsafe. You will need to inform us of any absence due to unsafe travelling conditions.

On occasions, if the decision to close is made early enough in the morning, parents will be contacted in the way they have indicated a preference for and a message will go out on Local Radio. Information is given out on Radio Kent and Heart Radio. All information will also be placed on the home page of our school website.

School meal services may be affected by weather conditions so it is a good idea for pupils to bring in extra food during that time. Please ensure your child is appropriately clothed for the weather and that footwear has good grip for icy conditions.

If the school closes at a time within the school day, parents will be contacted by telephone and children will be supervised until they can be collected.  If conditions worsen during the day and parents feel it is absolutely necessary to collect children, the school should be contacted prior to collection. Please avoid collecting children before the end of the school day unless you feel their safety is at risk.

Late opening or early closure is a possibility in poor weather conditions and we will either inform parents the night before or via the Local Radio.
