World Refugee Week

World Refugee Week

This week is a nationwide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK.

The week encourages cooperation and communication between communities and, especially at the moment, emphasises the need of all communities to provide support and space for those in most difficulty. This is a unity we need, and an acknowledgement of our common humanity.

This year the theme is ‘Imagine’.

"Another world is not only possible; she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing."

Arundhati Roy

"Imagination is more important than knowledge."

Albert Einstein

Inspired by this theme, here are eight Simple Acts that can all be done at home:

Watch one of these three amazing videos, Blanket of LoveThe Birthday Girl and The River’s Path, and imagine what it is like to grow up through a war, or to have your birthday in a strange new land where you don’t even speak the language.

Download the lesson plans from the Salusbury World Project to get some ideas of things to consider, read or do during this week.
