Admissions

Starting school in Reception

When your child is three or four years old, parents or carers will need to start thinking about which primary school you would like your child to go to.

At Chislet, we welcome you to view the school in action, by attending one of our Open Sessions for families with prospective new entrants. Dates for these sessions are released at the beginning of the new academic year and fall in October.  Please telephone the school office for more details or to make an appointment to visit us at a mutually convenient time.

The school does not have a catchment area – places are allocated by the LA according to the school’s admission criteria, as follows:

  • Children in Local Authority Care
  • Current Family Association – Sibling in Chislet C.E. Primary School at time of entry. (Sibling is children who live as brother and sister in the same house, including natural brothers or sisters, adopted siblings, stepbrothers or sisters and foster brothers or sisters. This does not include cousins)
  • Health and Special Access reasons
  • Nearness of children’s homes

You can register your interest in the school by contacting the school office where contact details will be taken and kept on file. No priority is given to early applications but by having your child’s details on file we are able to send you the Admissions Information when we receive it from the Local Authority.

The County Admissions procedure is followed on an annual basis, which includes the advice to apply for a school place online. Please see the following link to find the admissions booklet detailing the application process.

Parents are informed by the Local Authority of the decision regarding a place for their child in the April prior to starting school. After you have been informed that your child has been offered a place, you will receive information regarding our induction programme for children joining our Foundation Stage so that you and your child can become familiar with school and can start in September with confidence.

Starting school mid-year

Although we are a small school, on occasion we have spaces for mid-year intakes. Again, we would invite you to call and discuss this with us, come for a visit and see how Chislet can support your child on their educational journey.
